Remarks from Chelsea Piers Leadership: Betts, Bernstein and Tewksbury
Good evening and welcome to this wonderful celebration. While we are not able to be there in person tonight, it is our distinct pleasure to host the generous supporters and artists of Ice Theatre of New York as you celebrate 40 years of unparalleled excellence.
The histories of Chelsea Piers and Ice Theatre are forever intertwined. We first met Moira North on the 16thFloor of 450 West 33rd Street—the original home for Sky Rink. When Chelsea Piers opened thirty years ago this summer, Moira and Ice Theatre were among the first to grace the ice at the new Sky Rink.
Ice Theatre of New York has changed the face of figure skating through bold works and innovative community outreach programs.
Over four decades, the Ice Theatre of New York has been a beacon of creativity, artistry, and innovation in the world of ice skating—the first non-profit professional ice dance company. Your dedication to pushing the boundaries of performance and your commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent have not only enriched the lives of countless individuals but have elevated the art of ice skating to new heights, turning Sky Rink into a cultural destination for audiences and a training ground for talented skaters from across the globe.
Through Edge Classes and the New Works and Young Artist Series, you have provided access to thousands of public school students to experience the incredible feeling of their first time on the ice.
Tonight, we celebrate not just the milestones and achievements of the past 40 years, but also the bright future that lies ahead. We look forward to many more years of collaboration, creativity, and shared success under Moira and Jirina’s leadership.
Thank you to the Board members and donors who have nurtured this organization. Thank you to the skaters who have graced our ice and created countless memorable performances. And thank you, Ice Theatre of New York, for your remarkable contributions to the arts and being an integral part of the Chelsea Piers family. We are honored to be a part of this journey with you.
With gratitude and congratulations,
Roland, Tom, and David
